High School Representative: Jennifer Barnes

I’m very excited to be the high school representative for GSTA for the 2014-2016 term! I am originally from Florida where I taught for 10 years in both traditional classroom settings, and also as an online teacher with Florida Virtual School. I moved to Georgia to be closer to family and also transition back into a traditional school. I have taught a wide-range of subjects in 16 years: biology at all levels, anatomy & physiology, zoology, bioengineering and marine science. I am currently teaching Honors Biology, AP Biology and Scientific Research at Woodstock High School in Cherokee County. Being new to Georgia, I am eager to become involved to help teachers at the high school level any way that I can. GSTA has been a wonderful experience for me since moving, and I was awarded the “High School Teacher of the Year” for 2012. I have also been a Siemens STAR teacher where I participated in research at Oak Ridge National Laboratory for two weeks in the summer – please contact me for information on how to apply!

Note - I know many of you already - and you may know me as Jennifer Forsyth - I have gotten married, so my email and last name have changed. Please see the correct email address below to contact me!

I received my B.S. in Science Education from the University of Central Florida in Orlando. I also have a M.Ed. in Science Education and an M.A. in Instructional Systems Design from UCF. Upon moving to Georgia, I completed my Ed.S. in Science Education from Georgia State University. I am a National Board Teacher (and please contact me if you would like help with the initial or renewal process!) in AYA Science – Biology. I completed my Gifted Certification through UGA as well. Although my experiences have centered around biology, please contact me for any area and I’ll help any way I can!
