Supporting Excellent Science Teaching for Georgia

I am so excited to serve as your Vice President. My mission is to build the capacity of science teachers and instructional leaders to transform teaching and learning. I have served students, teachers, instructional and academic leaders for 12 years in a variety of capacities. I taught both middle grades Math and Science. My passion is Physical Science! I served as a STEM leader through many entities, starting as a Department Chair, Stem Coordinator, Georgia Science Ambassador, K-12 Math, Science, Stem Specialist, and Instructional Technology Coach. I served 11 years in Fulton County Schools, and now, I serve as the K-5 science specialist in Clayton County Schools. I believe in the importance of being a connected learner and reaching beyond the walls of our classrooms. The use of social media to foster teacher engagement, development, branding yourself as an educator, and being connected is a passion of mine.

During my time in Fulton, I provided professional development for teachers and instructional support leaders. Components of professional developments were specific to science and math content training, pedagogy, and appropriate instructional technology use. I developed partnerships with community partners to provide real-world STEM exposure for our students. I worked with our district to transition from GPS to GSE by training, coaching, developing and writing a curriculum aligned with our GSE standards. On top of the work as a STEM specialist, I served on the Vanguard Team as an executive leader, an in-district technology team of 400 educators with the sole purpose of transforming teaching and learning through instructional technology.

Currently, in Clayton County, I am  laser focused  on supporting K-5 Science Teachers within our district. My work focuses on integrating literacy in K-2 science, building 3D science content, pedagogy knowledge, technological knowledge, and making data-driven decisions to drive student learning.

In addition to serving as a science educator, I am also an ASCD emerging leader, ISTE certified. I hold many badges from instructional technology programs such as Microsoft as an MIEE, Google level 1, Nearpod, Flipgrid, and many more.  I also developed in my district the teacher-driven "un-professional" development called " Virtual Science Chats," where teachers choose what supports they need in real time. Teachers also get an opportunity to connect with other teachers across the district.

Personally, I live in Atlanta, Georgia, with my husband, three kids, a daughter, a set of fraternal twins ( boy/girl), and a fur baby, Blade.I  am a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Incorporated! Thank you for taking the time to get to know me. Please consider joining my Professional Learning Network by following me on Twitter! Remember, always be in the spirit of learning. I  invite you to continue learning and growing with me.
