GSTA 3D Science Saturday

Who - All K-12 science teachers, including preservice teachers, are invited to join your GSTA District Directors to explore three-dimensional science teaching and learning.

What – Join us for a half-day workshop introducing teachers to the three-dimensional approach to science learning based on A Framework for K-12 Science Education. Engage in a model lesson, explore the dimensions of the Framework, and identify phenomena for your students to explore. Three-dimensional learning is the research-based approach in which students simultaneously engage in science and engineering practices (e.g., engaging in argument from evidence) while learning and applying core ideas (i.e., GPS content standards) and crosscutting concepts (i.e., big ideas like patterns or structure & function). The 3D approach is being promoted by our GaDOE Science Program Manager, aligns to the goals of the Milestones science assessments, and will provide the foundation for Georgia's revised science standards. You will leave the workshop with sample lessons and a better understanding of how to apply the 3D approach in planning your science lessons.

How to Register - Current GSTA members should log on before registering to receive a discount to attend the workshop.  Click the registration link and follow the instructions.

When –  October 10, 2015 8:30 am- Noon

Where –Brenau East Campus, 1001 Chestnut Street S.E., Gainesville, GA (Across from Cargill)

This session is being co-hosted by Karen Henman (District 2 Director), Joey Nunn (District 12 Director) and Denise Webb (Elementary Rep.)

The 3D Science Saturday session will also serve as the first installment in GSTA's 3D Science Leaders professional learning series. Participants who complete that full series will develop deep understanding of 3D science learning and will be recognized as 3D Science Leaders. See below for more information.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

The GSTA 3D Science Leaders series will provide interested educators the opportunity to experience deeper professional learning on 3D science. After attending a 3D Science Saturday session, members of the cadre would attend 3D sessions by Brett Moulding and Nicole Paulson at the February conference and then a 2-day summer workshop in June. There will also be an online component. Cadre members will be expected to create and implement 3D lessons, and the group will critique one another's lesson after training on the EQuIP rubric. After successfully completing this series, participants will earn a certificate as a GSTA 3D Science Leader. This experience will deepen teachers' understanding of best practices for teaching science and prepare them to serve as science instructional leaders in their schools and districts.
